Intro to Brioche

The basic workings of this intriguing technique will be revealed. Brioche stitch yields a very cushy reversible fabric, which we will create in two colors. $20, bring 2 colors of a medium weight yarn, and needles appropriate for that yarn.


Open Dye Day

Would you like to play with dye? Want someone else to do the prep work and cleanup? Drop by The Cat and Crow back room today to dye a skein of yarn, a silk scarf, or some roving. Dye experience preferred but not necessary. $10 (for each pound of fiber or up to 4 skeins). Yarn and fiber to dye will be available for purchase.

Annual Cat and Crow PJ Party

Come and knit the night away at The Cat and Crow. Melissa and Rebecca will be happy to help you progress on any holiday projects you have. We'll also serve you drinks and popcorn and join in the knitting and crochet. Bring a favorite snack or sweet treat if you 'd like. FREE.

Good Clean Fun

(Drop-in; will take about 15-30 minutes)

This is a make-and-take. We will show you how to make felt over some fabulous Jangle Soapworks scented soap. They make great gifts! All ages are welcome. $10 includes instructions, fiber, and 1 bar of soap; more materials can be purchased (soap squares are $8 each.)

Cookie Exchange

Tuesday, December 17 from 6- 8 PM

Join us for last minute knitting and crochet and put together a fun plate of assorted cookies to take home too! You bring 2 dozen cookies of one variety and take home 2 dozen different cookies to keep or give as a gift. (Hopefully this will save baking time for all of us, so there is more time for knitting, of course!) FREE, RSVP please.

Needle-Felt Ornament

(sign up for 1 hour time slot-there will be spots for drop-in)

This is a make-and-take. We will help you use your creativity and our tools to make a great gift. No experience required; open to kids (8 and up) and adults. $10 includes 1 blank ornament, instruction, and use of everything you need for embellishment. (More blank ornaments may be available at $8 each.)

Infant Hat Knit-a-long

Saturday, January 11 from 2- 4 PM

Please consider joining us to help raise awareness of heart disease in children. We'll be knitting preemie and newborn hats in red an donating them to the American Heart Association. They are hoping to have enough hats for all babies born in February which is Heart Month. Beginner knitters will be welcome to come and work on a hat with assistance. We'll have patterns printed and partial balls of yarn for sale (just enough for 1 hat). We will be here to help you along and feed you treats!

Basic Hat

Wednesdays, January 15 and 22 form 6:30- 8 PM

Want to jump from scarves and dishcloths to so much more? In this class you will learn how to knit in the round on circular needles. We'll also cover reading patterns, stitch gauge, different hat cuffs, and different decreasing options to close up the top of your hat. $35 includes pattern.

Hand-Dyeing Workshop

Saturday, January 18 from 9 AM- 1 PM

Learn several ways of dyeing yarn to get the effect you want. We'll play with hand painting, gradients, kettle dyeing, and more. You will also learn more about how colors work together and what a yarn will look like when it is knit. $40 plus cost of yarn to dye.

3rd Annual Cat and Crow Community Hat Exchange

Saturday, January 25 at 3 PM and follow-up on March 7 at 3 PM

This is such a fun event; we are hosting it again! You will get to meet new people, play with yarn you didn't buy, and maybe try a a new technique or two. Bring a pattern, appropriate yarn, and your head measurement to put into a lunch sack. Then pick out a different hat project to knit or crochet for someone else; you won't know who your recipient is until we exchange finished hats in March! (You must commit to finishing a hat by March 7th; but if you can't make it on that Saturday you can turn in your finished hat in at the shop ahead of time.) FREE.

Tomte Hat Decorating

Saturday, February 1 form 10 AM- Noon at The Old Schoolhouse

Add another dimension to the Scandihoovian Winter Festival by embellishing your Tomte hat with needle-felting. Have fun and get creative, no experience necessary! Children are welcome with adult supervision. $2 fee covers materials and instruction; hats will be available for $10 if you don't already have one.
